Mano a Mano

A Great College Football Contest!

Hosted by FCSTop25.com

Mano a Mano Invented by Jim Wilkinson 1999 – Thanks, FMJ!

What makes Mano a Mano
so special? Well, in most football
pools everyone submits their picks,
which get scored somehow, and
then whoever gets the highest
score in that pool is the winner,
and everyone else is a loser.

Not much fun, huh?
Especially with a lot of players.

Mano a Mano reflects the flavor
of the game of football itself, two
opponents lining up toe to toe,
staring eye to eye, and when the
whistle blows letting loose with
everything you've got.

When you submit your weekly picks,
you are competing that week against
only one other opponent, and for that
week your opponent is competing
only against you. In this way you
accrue your hard-won wins or
suffer your oh-so-close losses.

Just as your favorite team strives
each week to improve its record,
seeking that 7-5 or 10-2 record or
that perfect undefeated season,
so too during each week of Mano
a Mano play you will try to find
that strategy which will gain you
victory over your opponent and
keep you on a competitive level
within your conference, as you
strive toward that ever-elusive
playoff berth, or maybe even the
coveted title of Mano Champion!

Note from DPD:

I had the pleasure of administering
the Mano a Mano contest from
2005 to 2008, during which time
we lost some players but gained
many new players, including
ACBanes and KBanes,
enthusiastic fans of college football in
general and SEC football in particular.

The Banes Boys, as I like to refer to them,
took an interest in the nuts and bolts of
the contest administration, while at the
same time I became more increasingly
involved in mathematical research and the
instruction of college-level mathematics.
Thus, I have willingly turned over the reins
of administering this great contest to them,
and they have (in my opinion) made many
improvements in how the contest is run.
